Humans are very tactile creatures, we rely on all of our senses to alert us of danger, reassure our fears, confirm celebration, ignite passion, and gauge dismay. Our sense of smell can determine a flowers pique in life, or an aged piece of meat's imminent turn. And, while each sense is arguable equally valuable, I revel in that of sight the most. And, just like a face can convey a myriad of emotions, lighting can play just as important a role. To this day the warm orange glow of cake exploding with candles takes me back to my 10th birthday and my first every ice cream cake, with dreams of bring a prima-ballerina dancing in my head. I still recall the way my typically nonthreatening walk to school would turn macabre in the gusting winds and overcast sky, which cast shadows on knotted, leafless trees. And I can't forget the dull flicker of candlelight on the beach as the moon's glow reflected on the water where I first fell in love... It's amazing what lighting can do.

With the holiday season finally hear I find myself overjoyed with decorating possibilities, and promises of new memories with family. This will be the husband and I's first year in our own home, which means our first pumpkins on the porch, our first Christmas tree, and plenty of snuggling. Let me start out by telling you it is a good day when one of these teal Party Lite boxes wind up in your hands. You know you're in for a treat- I could hardly wait to open up my goodies. Starting with the small box first (ready to gift), 2 layers of clear tea lights in neon green and purple made me instantly long for October. After burning them in my included pumpkins (which we'll get to), I was amazed by how long they lasted! I clocked 7 full hours of flame right down to the last drop of wax! The scent reminded my vaguely of caramel apples with a coconut and praline base that was soft but lingering.

The new for 2010 Autumn Pumpkin candle holders are meant for tea lights, votives, and mini barrel jars. Each of the 2 sizes have a painted white exterior which reminds me of white gourds or squash and is perfect for the transition from October, to November, to early December (think snow!) The large pumpkin features oak leaf cutouts that allow you to peer in towards the holder's shiny orange interior. This unique blend of shapes and shiny paint help to reflect the tiny tea light's glow and illuminate the interior. The light which escapes flickers almost enchantingly to even cast leaf like shadows in complete darkness.

The small Autumn Pumpkin candle holder is much the same, but with maple leaf cut-outs. I was please that the exterior of both candle holders remained cool to the touch. The tops lift off like traditional carved pumpkins and have a small notch etched in one corner for easy replacing. I didn't have my pumpkins in a particularly drafty area and the candle light was quite active, something I found calming and thought would be great for a dining room table or in a window sill. I absolutely adore the quality of these pieces and the versatility that will allow them to remain out for several months. I know my Party Lite Autumn Pumpkin Candle Holders will be in my family for a very long time!
