#11 Lime Crime Cosmetics Giveaway and Review!

Momma Told Me: It should be a crime to wear that shade of orange!

In her whitewash jeans and bulky sweatshirts, Momma never was one to care about personal fashion (she was more of a comfort lady). But that didn't stop her tongue whenever someone half her age would walk by donning bright shadow and fluorescent accessories, or wearing a furry hat and leather pants. Then, well then Momma had an opinion, and she was sure to let everyone within earshot know. And a few years back I was clearly reminded of this when those absurd looking shoes with the springs on their heels came out. I could just hear Momma, donning a pair, scoffing as a young businesswoman in a knobbed and puffy Burberry coat walked by. But the truth is, no matter how much Italian Vogue or Cosmopolitan wants to make you think fashion is defined, it's purely subjective. And if you want to blow one's mind even further, consider that prints, colors, materials and cuts, are most often solely recognized by the women in our lives as competition- not the men we're supposedly trying to attract!

You may think I'm attempting to start a revolution with my opening paragraph, and in a way, the company we're looking at today did. My personal experiences have found me complying with societal palettes and patterns for years as an adult. Balancing 3 jobs out of high school I had little choice in what I wanted to wear or resemble. My employers dictated every nuance, and it seemed society had done just as good a job, fostering notions of what made a woman 'desirable'. For quite some time I cut my hair, styled my makeup, dressed, and even walked the way modern fashion mags told me too. It wasn't until I was married, and finally comfortable to express myself that I truly began to deviate. I'm sure my husband thought I was amidst a quarter life crisis the first time I emerged from the bathroom in aqua tank top with matching shadow and heels. It was odd for me to think I would have to convince him this color loving, laid back woman was really me!

Now of course I have the amazing blessing today of working out of the house, with no boss to visually report to, and no dating pool to play in. And I'm not suggesting you storm into the boardroom, court, office, or even supermarket GaGa style tomorrow (though, honestly, if that's what you want, and you can't be what you want, it might be time to look at the things that forbid you). But I am making an argument for all the colorful, stylish, and sometimes just plain odd things you've always secretly admired vicariously from runways and fashion magazines. Buy The Shoes. Eat the Ice Cream. Wear the Magenta Eyeshadow. In the midst of all the Spring Cleaning, running around, paying the bills, and living life- you deserve a moment or two that's truly you. and the beautiful thing about it? Makeup washes off!

Appropriately named Unicorn Queen, Cosmetics Enthusiast, and amazingly addictive Blogger Doe Deere is (in my opinion) nothing short of fabulous. She is who I want to be when I grow up- okay, not quite, but definitely an amazingly powerful woman with stunning looks and a keen eye for design and fashion! Hailing from New York, and with the makeup guts most every woman secretly envies, Doe designed the Lime Crime makeup line to bring a touch of color to the world of otherwise drab shadows and smokey eyes. From perfectly pastel to vividly vibrant her shadows and lipcolor offer a multi-dimensional, never tested on animals, collection of candy for your face. The fun names (Circus Girl, Troubadour, and Abracadabra), ingeniously short marketing images and fan inspired looks help to make this a perfectly pitched brand intended to inspire the most tentative of coloristas.

Just in time for Spring are the Online Exclusive, Limited Edition, pastel shadows and lipcolors shot in a very Gaga-Esque, Vogue, ad campaign. The Pinks, Yellows, and Aquas are great for layering, or even brightening a classicly modern look. They're just the trick for that colorful Spring skirt or flashy floral cardigan. One of the shades making quite a buzz in the Cosmetic Underground is Mint To Be opaque green lipstick, certified vegan and long wearing. This unique shade is perfect for freshly bronzed or perfectly pale skin tones and plays well with a rainbow of other colors. Also a Spring must have is the new Lime Crime Candy Eyed Eyeshadow Helper, which brightens and prepared lids for shadow and tint, while minimizing creases.

I received a few samples of Lime Crime, including the smoldering and fiery Dragon Scales shadow, for review here on Momma Told Me. I absolutely love the company's unicorn logo and Royal Purple packaging. The lettering seems to have a playful iridescence and the tiny pots seal tight. I was equally impressed with the smooth wear, and ease of blend, these shadows had. A little truly did go a long way, and Dragon Scales created a beautifully vibrant, almost transforming shimmer that's nothing short of whimsical. I love that I can use it solo for a dramatic eye catching look, or layer it beneath softer shades for an extra pop of color.
