Momma Told Me: If you throw that toy one more time I'm going to donate it!
Leave it to Momma to threaten one annoying childhood act with an attempt to pass on the offending item to be as equally annoying elsewhere. Let's face it, between the ages of 0-3, throwing things is merely an instinctual reaction to the condition of having something within reach. Somewhere around 3, we begin to realize we're cute enough to warrant throwing things and having them retrieved. Like humans with dogs, we'll throw anything so long as the adult in charge will make the effort to stop what they're doing and return it. By 4, we throw things to aim at people. Not necessary because we wish them harm, but because we appreciate the elaborate response received when a metal race car makes contact with the back of Pop's neck while driving 75MPH on the freeway. At 5, and beyond, we throw things for many reasons; to kill boredom, to hit a target, to tease a sibling, and much more. However, no matter the age, 1 thing remains constant, the natural response of Momma as colorful objects are flying through the air at home/in the car/at the store.

In those moments, no longer merely an adult, or grown up kid, Momma sees broken artifacts, purchased merchandise, and an awkward trip to the emergency room explaining the Kitty shaped welt on their child's head. Manufactured by the parent company Iseo, Rubbabu toys have exploded onto the toddler toy scene over the past year. What began as eco-friendly, and child-safe foam cars in bright primary colors, has evolved into an ever-growing world of imaginative toys. Made from 100% Natural Rubber Foam, and considered biodegradable/renewable, Rubbabu toys were designed with toddlers in mind, but have turned into a lasting childhood toy kids of all ages enjoy.
The majority of Rubbabu toys are comprised of singular pieces that are engaging in texture and accents, as well as easy for tiny hands to grab. The color palette is designed with growing brains in mind, and makes them easy to spot between cushions or under car seats. One of my favorite Rubbabu concepts is the Large Uppercase Alphabet set, which is entirely magnetic- yet still made of plush and soft Rubbabu material! What a great addition to any fridge or magnetic easel; perfect for educating, with the vowels in uniform color for identification! Also exciting is the brand's new Tool Set ($24.95), complete with Hammer, Wrench, Saw, Pliers, and Screwdriver for even the littlest of Daddy's helpers.
I had a chance to select one of Rubbabu's Playsets for review here on Momma Told Me and chose the 9 Piece My Animal Farm Playset. Included in the My Animal Farm Set is a tree, lion, hippo, rhino, snake, gorilla, giraffe, and bear, as well as a durable canvas based play mat. Now, when one hears Rubbabu they likely think some type of slick, rubbery, and hard, surface. We were all surprised to find such an ironic name for these squishy little critters which seemed to resemble felt on the surface. While, in fact, I do suppose they exhibit a rubber like 'bounce' and sponge texture, they are the softest rubber based toys I've ever known!
Each individual toy varied in size and averages 4" in length, and 1.5" in thickness, with defining silhouettes that are fun for children to identify. The mat is decent in size, and appropriate for play on the floor or a table, with an easily washable surface. There's a graphically designed fence, lake, and grass for the animals to interact on. Perhaps best of all about these playful growing toys are their gentle weight and rebounding shape. They're durable enough to withstand rough play and fighting (though hopefully it doesn't some to that), and soft enough, if one lands in the side of your head, it shouldn't hurt. We also discovered how easy Rubbabu toys are to clean and sanitize, which is great, because I can already see tiny mouthes drooling all over them!
What Daughter Says: Play the engaging, safe, and eco friendly way- with fun for all ages; choose Rubbabu!
