Tasty Tuesday: Mac-N-Mo's Morsels Giveaway and Review!

Momma Told Me: I'd rather trade 5 years of my life, than sprinkle that junk on my food every day!

Okay, having tangled with death, and lived to tell the story- Momma is a firm believer that, at some point, no lifestyle inconvenience is worth the extra minutes on one's time line. I'm fairly sure she'd attest, if there's a ticking time bomb, she'd rather play Hot Potato with it, than dress in explosive armor during the summer heat. It's not everyone's point of view, but that's Momma. How has that shaped me? Well, somewhere around 10 I first became aware of my father's parents affinity for the holistic and natural healing processes. It's funny to think their 'drug case', when traveling, was larger than Momma's stash. Of course theirs was nothing like hers; Grandma and Grandpa believed in magnetic centering, the power of Cod Liver Oil, acupuncture, and much more! For several years they carried around a special shaker, which would emerge during meals out.

Out of that shaker would sprinkle tiny flat grains, known as flax seed. They'd sprinkle a hefty layer on just about everything and I'd crinkle my nose at the sheer sight. I always imagined it would be like eating a mouth full of sunflower seeds on your eggs, toast, pancakes, steak- the texture alone would be hard to stomach. Now, facing 25, it's time for me to begin making similar lifestyle decisions on everything from hobbies to food. I'm on a plethora of prescription medications, and that's NOT the way I'd prefer it- in addition to suggested dietary guidelines. The latter concerns me more because I love my food, and when you mess with my food, well, you mess with my happiness. I don't want to bake cakes, pies, and treats I can't eat! This is a conundrum Mo, of Mac-N-Mo's Morsels, understands quite well.

After her father amazingly survived 2 massive heart attacks and quadruple bypass surgery, she became overwhelmed by the constantly growing list of lifestyle changes his physicians wished him to make. It seemed as though every aspect of his diet was to be scrutinized, removing most of the 'fun' stuff he loved most. The baked goods he craved most were lacking in the criteria they set; low salt, low fat, low sugar, low cholesterol, no trans fat, more fiber. Understanding her dad's craving for the sweets that had been left behind, Mo set out on a mission to create a preservative free baked good which met his major dietary requirements- while satisfying his craving. Multiple shopping carts, and countless batches later Mac-N-Mo's Morsels were born. 2 Bite Sized wheat, butter, salt, baking soda, and added sugar free baked balls of sticky flavor.

As these things tend to go, Mo's pop wasn't the only one to fall in love with these healthy snacking alternatives. Friends, family, and people nationwide quickly learned of, and fell in love with, the 3 Morselicious flavors; Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Cranberry, and Peanut Butter Spice. Mo sent me some samples so I could put her claim to flavor to the test. I must admit I was quite skeptical knowing these morsels were gluten free, vegan friendly, and just 30 calories each. Because there are absolutely no preservatives, these morsels should be stored in the freezer if not eaten within days. I found it hard to wrap my head around the fact these are baked treats, simply for the fact they are extra moist and chewy- kind of like a great macaroon or gooey brownie. The sweetness certainly doesn't lack, and the effect is very satisfying. I love the Chocolate Chip most, for their classic flavor and Oatmeal Cookie like qualities. What a wonderfully inspired treat for any sweet tooth!

What Daughter Says: Don't sacrifice flavor and texture for your health- have them both, with Mac-n-Mo's deliciously low fat, gluten free, no sugar added, morsels!

One lucky Momma Told Me follower will win 1 Bag of Each Flavor, Mac-N-Mo's Morselicious Mix, to make these tasty morsels at home!
