Momma Told Me: You'll grow out of it. *See: It's just a phase.
I like to 'geek' out every now and then. No, not quite as intense as sleeping outside George Lucas' mansion, or memorizing every line in the Star Trek television series (Extended Editions). But, some of Momma's readers may find it humorous to image a very different, awkwardly expressive, teenage me. You see, somewhere between a significant age gap in high school, and desperate attempts to find a niche, I learned to love art. Being creative almost always ensures that you will have staunch disapproval and anti-fans, people who simply do not connect with your work on a resonating level. But artistry also means a full range of uninhibited expression, and the opportunity to share a very personal level of one's self. And that, well, that makes it all worth it.
So, in the middle of discovering I could draw more than bow legged cats (yes, they truly were bow legged), a blossoming love for Japanese animation and RPG video games, and the first Harry Potter release; I became a true art geek. That's right, I am young, and old enough, to have been a Harry Potter fan before it was cool- before the second book was even published. And, while I had a deep respect for fantasy artists such a Boris Vallejo and Final Fantasy acclaimed Yoshitako Amono, I also learned to enjoy writing. All in one year I ordered my first cosplay costume and co-founded a (still) successful MMORPG, that's massively multi-player online role playing game, Harry Potter universe. Believe it or not, that is how I met my very first 'love' (all the way across the country in Rhode Island), and best friend. We still, to this day reference the childish shenanigans of our text based, storybook world and characters.

We still, to this day reference the childish shenanigans of our text based, storybook world and characters.

So, while Momma might have brushed this off as a phase (and in a way she was right, as I quickly decided 'Video Game Design' was not the career path, for me), I hold a special spot in my heart for the colorfully creative, and fantasy in nature. So, while indulging my 'dark side' a few months back I ha-penned across a delightful corner of the web, Merfle Munchies. This collection, and in all respects functioning mini-verse, of custom dragons is unsuspectingly personal. The graphics are of the highest artistic caliber and professional design, while the individual critters spring to life vibrant and unique in themselves. It's still hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that these little dragons are created by an individual (not a brand or company), named Christina. Much like me, or so I flatter myself to think, Christina's talents began to emerge through basic color manipulation and sketching in middle school. In high school, she bagan to exhibit her creations within scholastic competitions and found an interest that fueled her to continue with art after graduation.

Unlike me, her passion has inspired many others and resulted in a lifetime of industry acclamations and recognition. From beautiful digital creations of fantasy and whimsy, to the hand painted hatchling sculptures she lovingly refers to as her babies, whelps. Whelps are what uninspired refer to as 'baby dragons', and just about the most adorable fictional pet I've ever seen. At Merfle Munchies Christina, and her cohort in play and crime, conceive elaborately colorful and individually unique characters. They showcase their love for these reptiles in offering a one of a kind custom commission, or limited edition figurine. Whether you're a fan of budding artists, whimsical characters, or simply looking for a unique gift, Merfle Munchies is the place to go. After all, who could turn down a face like this?

Merfle Munchies hand painted original dragon hatchlings retail for $35-$50 on average and includes customization options such as inset gemstones and eye color. Snap up the limited edition edible cuties (inspired by truffles, gingerbread, cupcakes and more) or commission your own. Both children and adults will fall in love with the tender faces and vibrant colors, and Christina is sure to be genuinely famous soon! If you love her ceramic critters be sure to check out her profile and resume for original fantasy artwork, merchandise samples, and more!
What Daughter Says: I may not openly disclose I know all of the HP character birthdays, but I still enjoy a good fantasy now and then!
