I have a confession to make. One of my first car accidents was while plugged into my (then) brand new Portable CD Player. I had these extremely compact in-ear-buds that pumped my favorite tunes with wonderful clarity, at ear splitting volumes. You see, the family mini van was equipped with a CD stereo system, but my handheld (or in this case, lap help) device was much more consistent with disc reads and offered an immersible sound experience I preferred to the empty venue of our van. My father, being your typical paranoid, over-protective pop, had just relinquished the keys for one of my first solo drives post-license. In a sequence that, at the time, played in my head as a myriad of cartoon montages and Charlie Brown 'adult' speak, he rattled off the usual safe driving tips. As a teenager I did my best not to listen.
Ironically, it was the return trip, just 2 blocks from our house, that found me in a self induced incident. Paying more attention to the Goo Goo Dolls than the horns behind me, I had failed to notice a car come up alongside me, then pull into my (right) hand lane and abruptly slam on the breaks. I believe this maneuver is known as a 'Scoop and Squat', and, as it turns out this vehicle was behaving irradicaly for several lights and lane changes. I simply failed to notice because I was entirely tuned out to the word around me- dangerous! Now, just imagine how fatal athletic activities can be when you're tuned out in the same manor. I had tons of steel around me, runners and bicyclists do not. This is the exact principal Auria based their popular Exceed In-The-Earphones on when conceiving a personalized, quality audio experience that also considered comfort and safety.
As one of the industry leaders in fine audio equipment Auria engineered a precision Xfit System based on our body's natural acoustics and with the consideration of a varied fit. Instead of painful in-ear based earphones, the Exceed line rests on the outer lobe for a stay-put fit that also enables exterior sounds to filter through. Each pair includes 3 sets of ECO (Ear Canal Opening) Rings that the wearer can interchange for a snug and comfortable fit. This also means that Auria recognizes not all lobes are symmetrical, and that the wearer deserves a fit as complex as themselves.

You may find it odd that Auria chose to develop a pair of earphones that allow sound to filter through. Isn't the point of personal audio to receive an immerse and clear output? Yes, but Auria has also found a way for athletes, workers, and safety concerned individuals to enjoy a natural audio experience that blends safety with quality, without compromise. One of my favorite pluses, outside the safety aspect, is that the Exceed earphones are exceeding comfortable (some pun intended). They are engineered to stay put and wear for long periods of time without discomfort. So, while you may buy a pair for running, work outs, or driving, don't be surprised if you fall in love with the fit and comfort for everyday wear as well. Also integrated into the design is an easy to secure clip, for stability in movement, a UV resistant Personalizer system, and easy slide volume control bar.
The Personalizers are digitally printed discs that attach to the extra wide face of each earbud for a color coordinated or fan-expressive look. I received a pair of Black and Pink Exceed earphones for review here on Momma Told Me and immediately noted how sporty the packaging was. Inside the box was a tabbed clam-shell display container for easy opening. Included with my Auria earphones, and 3 graduated ECO rings, was an ultra soft Mesh Carrying Case that doubles as a media protector when in use. It's generously sized to accommodate the entire 'i' audio line and most MP3 compatible cell phones or players. I absolutely love that this is included, as it protects my earphones and my tech in my on-the-go lifestyle.
Exceed Earphones, from Auria, retail for an average $33.99 asking price, and are sold online through Amazon.com, or the Auria website, and nationwide at Fry's Electronics. I can personally attest to the long-wear comfort, as I have gone through stints 6+ hours wearing them without issue, and love that I can hear my phone, or the door, while at home. On the go, these make for great active earbuds, with a snug fit that does not jostle or fall during movement. I did, however, find the slider volume control stuck a little on my pair, but seemed to ease up over time. In all, these are impressively designed, and executed, with an asking price that is a bargain!
What Daughter Says: Enjoy the experience of quality sound with the safety and comfort of ECO fit In-The-Earphones.
