Momma Told Me: This is a house, not a restaurant!
Growing up, I had few complaints about Momma's cooking. Yes, there were ingredients in certain dishes I didn't care for (I still, to this day can't stand Stroganoff), but I generally considered her a good cook. Looking back, though, I often feel a twinge of guilt for the way I would treat her, come dinnertime. We'd be out at a family restaurant, a flashy new dish on the menu, and I'd make a point to convince Momma she should try cooking it too (and most times she did, even better than the actual restaurant!) However, there were times, as I got older, even my faves grew to become old. It seemed, when Momma was particularly tired or stressed, we would eat the same few meals in constant rotation. To me, it was so simple to pick up a cookbook and try something new- she was already cooking anyway, right? Oh how wrong I was! There is a difference between cooking the tried and true classics, and attempting the combination of new flavors, ingredients, and textures. Now that I'm my family's chef, I understand how hard it truly is to keep things fresh at dinnertime!

While I like to consider my own cooking style a blend between classic home cooking (pot roasts and shepards pies) and radical new blends (fusion and, well whatever's in the fridge), I'm often intimidated by new recipes. When My Blog Spark, WalMart, and Pillsbury reached out to me, sharing their recent Bake Off Competition, I was excited to discover the 100 sweet and savory finalists in this nationwide competition. Featuring one of a kind, original, recipes from contestants across the country, these recipes feature beloved Pillsbury ingredients and easy to follow, time friendly directions. I love that I can browse vivid images of each recipe (which only serves to make my mouth water), and step by step instructions (and backgrounds) for everything from appetizers to baked deserts. Just try passing up Chocolate and Caramel Cinnamon Roll Skewers, or Christina Verrelli's Pumpkin Ravioli with Salted Caramel Whipped Cream- the 1 Million Dollar Grand Prize winner!
MyBlogSpark and WalMart sent me a $25 gift card to browse my local Super WalMart's aisles and see just how easy it truly is to bring these amazing recipes to life on my own table. Thanks to WalMart's expanded grocery section, and their everyday low prices, and savings, on millions of home necessities, I could easily stock up on essentials like Pillsbury Grands Biscuits and Ready Made Pie Crust. For less than $12 I snagged all the ingredients to make this delectable Country Chicken Bacon Pot Pie, with just 30 mins prep, and 30 mins baking time- it fit my busy schedule perfectly. As a bacon lover, I must say this recipe does not disappoint, while integrating my favorite Pillsbury product, Refrigerated Pie Crust, and Progresso Chicken Broth. This dish is also a great way to cover many food groups, for a hearty dish that will leave your family feeling full and indulged. Head on over to find this recipe, and the 99 others, today!
What Daughter Says: Find a creative new dish your whole family is sure to love, at the WalMart Bake Off!
One Momma Told Me follower will win a $25 WalMart Gift Card, to try these tasty recipes in their own home!
