Momma Told Me: Comfort before fashion.
It's no secret I have a shoe addiction. Ironically, as a woman 'blessed' with size 12 feet, I simply cannot pass up a cute pair of shoes; often buying those an entire size smaller simply for the sake of looking at them in my closet. It's a problem- I know! Perhaps even more perplexing, to those who know me best, is why this fashionista at heart can often be found sporting a pair of flip flops with everything from a $280 dress to a skirt or jeans. Sandals, specifically flip flops, are my go to shoe for one simple reason; comfort. I've even been mocked enough times (by those who absolutely no fashion sense, which only serves to make it worse), that I've become even more stubborn. I own 18 pairs of shoes in my size, currently, and 9/10 days I will leave the house in flip flops, with holes in the soles! I am embarrassed, yes, but like an old pair of jeans, they just fit perfectly. While the edges of these 'shoes' have long curled up along the bed of my foot, and the straps are evenly worn between my toes- they're my definition of comfort.
Anyone who has not been where I am, likely is screaming "What about Crocs?" Famous name brands, like this, are often most known for their unique (originally odd) styling, that caught on in fashion circles; thus driving the price. I'm not saying there aren't brands that make quality footwear, but I've yet to find one that meets my definition of comfort (a broken down flip flop). Many foam based sandals are either too stiff to break into, or break down with such speed that they lose all support as viable footwear. I seen sandals with springs, sandals like socks, and sandals with scales; gimmick after gimmick, and none stylish enough to make me forgo basic comfort. That is, until discovering OOFOS.
Now, while I still have no idea what OOFOS means, I do know that OOFOS footwear is made of a proprietary EVA material that absorbs up to 37% more shock than the average EVA footwear. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell you that less shock (to your bones/muscles/system) is going to equal less strain- and less pain. When your body absorbs less of the impact of each step your muscles and joints will naturally 'bounce back' quicker, cutting fatigue, and rejuvenating your feet. Armed with this information, the initially stiff and thick OOFOS blueprint seems much more inviting. I'll admit, the fact these shoes were very gender ambiguous both excited me, and turned me off at first. Not only do my partner and I wear the same size shoe (respectively in male v. female sizes), but I'm always looking for mine. I tend to flick my shoes off everywhere, and never can seem to find them when I simply need to run out to the car, or to the store. Having a pair of shoes we can both get away with wearing is a plus; and OOFOS come in an array of vibrant colors for those looking for a more feminine touch.
OOFOS currently come in two styles of sandals; OOriginal Thong and OOahh Slide. The Slide is exactly as it sounds, a double banded, open toes slide on with an identical sole to the OOriginal. We received an OOriginal Thong, in Black, from OOFOS, to review here on Momma Told Me. As OOFOS range in women's sizes up to 11, and Men's 14, we decided to go with a Men's size 11 (as my sizing would be a 10.5 in Mens). Our shoes arrived with a double branded tag and easy cardboard hanger, for store display purposes. The inner rim and the inner sole were both marked with the OOFOS logo, and the bed of the foot features a lightly textured pattern for ergonomic comfort. The entire shoe is made from a single molded piece, featuring the brand's patented OOFoam technology, which is entirely machine washable and much more flexible than it appears.
Looking at the shoes, alone, I would have though they'd be quite heavy and very stiff, with a foot-bed that would give over time, to form to the shape of one's foot. So much for judging a book by it's cover, OOFOS is none of those things! This unique material is unlike any I've ever seen used in a shoe before. Not only is the shoe about 1/3 the weight of my other 'single mold' sandals, but it's incredibly breathable (my feet don't sweat in long term use), and easy to keep clean. I've had no issues with scuffing and I consider them much more sanitary than various 'memory foam' like sandals, as moisture is not absorbed into the bed with prolonged use. In addition OOFOS mold to each wearer's feet with no signs of permanent imprint. The whole itself is quite flexible for those with heavy strides, and I can easily walk without the back half smacking back up against my heel- yes, these are quiet as well!
Both the other half and I have worn these and, not only have they replaced other similar footwear but, they are without a doubt worth every penny in comfort. I have heard, almost daily remarks about the ease of wear and long-term comfort. We've even used the cliche "It feels like I'm walking on a cloud!" The comfortable shoes would fall somewhere in the high-mid range of a scale, for style, in my opinion. These are more of an active wear, beach setting look that certainly wouldn't pair as well with my skirts as a traditional pair of flip flops. However, for long term wear and practical around town shopping or all day excursions, I wouldn't trust my comfort to any other pair of shoes in my arsenal!
What Daughter Says: The innovative and modern designed OOFOS promise years of unparalleled comfort, with a sporty look that translates well into Summer fashion.
