NaiLuv: Professional Gel Polish System Review and Giveaway~ 12/23

Momma Told Me: There's strength in layers.

No, I'm not referring to onions, Thanks Shrek; I'm referring to the fortifying of a group, function, or truth, through layers of facts, strength, and community. We, as individuals are made of layers, are we not? Whether inspecting this from a physiological, cold and scientific, manner- or the community of family and friends we build throughout a lifetime of instances and occasions. From the simplest cake recipe, to the biggest achievements of mankind; each and every success is built with a strong foundation and supporting cast. During this time of year I am especially nostalgic for those who have shaped me into who I am today, and the trials and tribulations that brought me here. Even reflecting on the most unpleasant of times, I am only humbled to think how my perseverance, in them, made me the fierce woman I am today. How does this tie into lacquer and polish? Much like daily beauty regimens, I know my nails need all the nourishment and strength they can get. Without a strong base-coat they will become brittle and stained, without a tough top-coat, chipped and cracked.
I have always had an affair with polish; but it is one I have kept exclusive to my feet. I simply use my fingers, to types hours each day, scrub dishes and tubs, tend to the garden, etc; at home manicures do not stand up the the harsh ins and outs. I very traumatic salon experience, involving my first and only salon gel application (for Junior Prom), in which my long natural nails were carelessly snipped to the nubs, has kept my wallet thick and away from professionals. But I do admit I have always envied my girlfriends and their salon manis, with the long wearing finish of gel polish, and their high gloss sheen. From time to time I've thought, 'Wouldn't it be nice if I could have the strength of a salon manicure without being pressures into all the add-ons, and the false acrylics?' So, for years I have anxiously watched the release of gel polish and home UV lights, systems once marketed exclusively to professionals. And then I discovered NaiLuv, a professional Gel Polish manufacturer dabbling in the release of personal LED and UV Lamp releases. For under $100 the ordinary beauty addict could invest in their own efficient NaiLuv curing lamp and finish set. Perfect for gifting, but sure to be stolen in any household of 1+, the NaiLuv Gel Manicure Sets include a cuticle pusher, buffing pad, application cleanser, gel polish remover, bonder, basecoat, and starter gel shade.
I was tickled to dive into my first, at home, Gel Polish experience; quite the novice, but armed with extensive Step-By-Step instructions. The Professional Gel Polish Starter kit included a 4 Watt LED, much like the giant table lamps you'd find at your local nail salon. This lamp is the secret to curing NaiLuvs patented gel polish formula, for bubble free, long wearing nails that can last weeks longer than traditional lacquers. This adorable heart shaped lamp plugs and and operated via a quick flip switch on the back of the unit. Prior to any product application it is essential to use the included cuticle pusher and nail buffer to even the nail surface and remove cuticle bumps that may result in pooling gel. After prepping your nails be sure to cleanse them with the included gel polish cleanser, and dry thoroughly. Note that my initial experience I was very slow, taking it 2-3 nails at a time; do not tackle more than one hand at a time unless you have a gel polish buddy to efficiently polish. The included 4 Watt LED curing lamp only accommodates one hand at a time (minus the thumb for me), so you will have to be mindful of your steps and curing times.
In order to allow the gel solution to bond to the nail, eliminating peeling and any damage to the nail surface itself, you must apply a thin layer of NaiLuv Bonder to the prepped nails. Allow the Bonder to dry for 30 seconds, then apply a thin coat of NaiLuv Basecoat, being sure to reach all the way to the cuticles. This coat must be cured under the LED lamp for a full minute. UV Lamps are also effective, but will take twice as long to cure. You may notice a warm sensation on the nails during the curing process, there is additionally a little heat that can be felt inside the lamp, though this is not painful or reason to be alarmed. Note that the Gel Polish formulas are just as strong as those odors you smell in professional salons, so it's important to conduct this process in a well ventilated area, and replace caps promptly after application. From the first cure you will immediately see the UV effect, interacting with the gel formula, glowing bright white. It may look like there is a thick white coat on your nails, but the bonder and base-coats are actually clear.
While you may be tempted to remove a finger to fix any visible missed spots, do not interrupt the curing process. Touch ups can be made to the base-coat after curing, if desired, but it is essential each layer is thin, and cured fully, to avoid bubbles or peeling later on. Next the desired NaiLuv Gel Polish color can be applied. The Gel Polish is almost translucent, and should be applied thin, curing for 30 seconds, before a second layer is applied and cured for 45 seconds. Patience will be the key to a flawless mani; the process is already greatly accelerated, so do not feel rushed, the results will be worth it! Because I have longer, slender fingers I had to arch my index a little to allow enough exposure for my pinky. Do not be alarmed if you need to cure your fingers in batches, but be sure to flip the light off when not in use to avoid additional exposure.
Lastly you will need to apply a topcoat, conveniently the same product as the NaiLuv base coat. This will need to cure for 30 seconds before your nails will be set completely. As for my experience? I timed everything carefully, but found the top of my nails was a bit tacky still- I ran a lightly damp cotton swab, soaked in NaiLuv Gel Polish Remover, over each nail extremely quickly. This seemed to instantly even out the texture and harden the finish. This is not advised anywhere in the instructions, but has proved a useful trick in following applications. As far as texture and uniformity, I only had one finger with two, very miniscule, bubbles; out of 10 piggies polished. I'd call that a rousing success for my first time! In future applications I took my time, going nail by nail, which really paid off with minimal edge clean up and no bubbles/peeling. The NaiLuv polish wore beautifully for weeks, until I decided to remove the color. At that time there was still no visible damage or chips/peels. I couldn't have been more pleased with the way they kept their shine, catching the light, and how I was able to show off my natural nails!
Removing the gel polish is a little different than your average at home lacquer job. You may feel inclined to peel the gel polish off, as it will lift ever so slightly at the end of a few weeks. Don't. Use the included NaiLuv Gel Polish Remover, first buffing your nail lightly, then placing a soaked cotton ball on the tip of each finger. Let this sit for 5-10 minutes, until the polish has softened; it will begin to appear to slide off. The result is a well nourished nail bed, free of color stains, and (in my opinion) stronger than prior to application. Not only do my nails chip much less with NaiLuv Gel Polish, but they showcase as though I'd spent $30+ on a manicure!

What Daughter Says: Trust the layers of your manicure to NaiLuv, Gel Polish and Systems!
