Momma Told Me: Nothing beats a bird's eye view.
Growing up I was never much of a girly girl. Before video games and computers I was scaling trees on the playground and when our family invested in America Online I became hopelessly addicted to server gaming on channels such as Descent, Hexen, and DOOM. I'll admit, I never paid much thought to robotics, never tinkered with making my own brush bots or tried to take apart my parent's alarm clock. However, there was a fascination with the combination of real life and virtual reality that ultimately led me to pursue game art and design after high school.
Drones get a lot of bad press, mainly because the megaconglomerate, Amazon, has made them the butt of a silly marketing joke. But the truth is, drone's serve real value for modern consumers whether as photography aids, traveling companions, or simply a remote control device intended to satisfy curiosity. Following a drone's on-board video stream is perhaps the closest one can get to soaring through the environment around them, seamlessly switching from bird's eye to first person perspectives at remarkable heights and through unusual confines.
Naturally, drones range in price from children's toys ($79-159) and professional hobbyist (upwards over $2500,) and it can be hard to know where to start, though you're undoubtedly intrigued. Released just in time for Father's Day this year the 3DR Solo Drone is the perfect solution for consumers interested in capturing photographic moments without the hassle of mastering complicated drone flight skills. In fact, with 2 Linux computers on board the 3DR Solo can in fact operate in 'Solo' modes such as Selfie, Orbit, and the especially intriguing Cablecam flight path. With Cablecam, users can set up an invisible 'cable' flight path for the Solo to steadily move along, allowing the operator to focus solely on their photography. The Solo can even go completely hands free with the playful 'Follow Me' mode that is sure to capture some intriguing live broadcasts.
Solo is also built with GoPro users specifically in mind- whether you have an original GoPro, or recently invested in the brand new GoPro HERO+ LCD, the in board mount flawlessly integrates professional video and photography at any height. And, when you purchase your
3DR Solo Drone now through July 11th, at Best Buy, you can take advantage of a FREE Solo Smart Battery (a $149 value)-
