Growing up in Southern California I had no doubt that life through the Winter months was easy; after all, Momma never let me forget. While I had relatives in New England I visited each Christmas, the next closest thing to a frigid experience was a weekend at the Big Bear mountains. It hasn't snowed in my home town in 17 years, and even then I don't consider frozen water hitting the group and instantly melting snow. But that's not to say it doesn't get cold. We live just a few miles off the beach, and our older condominum has no central anything. For the past 2 Winters we have spent the majority of December and January wrapped on Snuggies and blankets.

Last year we invested in these small desktop heaters, which did the job well (so long as it was a medium to small sized room) but were around $40 a piece and quite loud through the night. Even more frustrating, they put off a horrible odor which the fan circulated through our master bedroom. This year I finally found my common sense- we needed to invest in something more long term; something that could get the job done on a larger scale with less interruption to our daily lives. When our AH-470 Space Heater arrived it only required the simple hand fastening/bolting of the includes wheeled feet. It was otherwise ready to run out of the box. You will want to make sure you leave several feet of an operation radius around the appliance when in use, but I do want to note how impressed I was with the ease of storage and mobility of the AH-470. With an 8lb frame weight and easy rolling wheels this unit is flawless in its ability to move between rooms and tuck away at the side of furniture (when not in use.) The manufacturers even built in a thoughtful cord mount on the front, to wrap the cord up and out of the way for storage.

As a michathermic heater, the AH-470 Space Heater is essentially silent in operation and efficiently emits heat almost instantly from start up. With the vented cage encasing heat is distributed from the top and sides with no fan operation. Thanks to an LED remote and front face control pad, operation is intuitive and convenient. I especially like that I can adjust the heat, or turn the unit off, without getting out of bed at night. This heater even has timer and programmable modes to help keep your peice of mind if you doze off or plan on heating in a bedroom. While there is a built in thermostat, I did find that the immediate tmperature readings do not seem quite accurate, as the temperature is taken from the unit (which is emitting heat) and artificially padded by it's proximity to the heat source. I'd love to see a New Air Space Heater with the thermostate feature built into the remote so the unit can detect the temperature near the users, not the unit itself.
