Momma Told Me: Do you know what you're breathing?

The air- its the one thing you are guaranteed to come in contact with on a daily basis, and it enters and leaves your body every single moment. I was raised more aware of the atmosphere and my surroundings, than the average kid, as Momma lost the majority of her lung capacity to cancer when I was just 4. While her lungs remained physically in her chest the surface area within them was so badly scarred she could only process a fraction of normal oxygen absorption. As a result we avoided smoke (and smokers,) pollen, pet dander, and anything that might irritate her lungs and inhibit her breathing further. Because of this I consider my own lungs quite virgin, and am extra sensitive to the particles in the air I breathe.

But you don't have to have a loved one with asthma or allergies to appreciate the quality of good, clean, air. You do, however, have to realize that contaminants to that air can come from a variety of places, no matter how clean or buttoned up you keep your home. That's why a medium size (150-20 sq feet) Air Purifies such as the Fellowes AeraMax™ 190 Air Purifier makes a logical gift for your own home or family this season. Believe it or not indoor air can contain up to 5 times the number of pollutants as the atmosphere just outside your home's walls! Pollutants such as the air borne influenza virus, which the AeraMax™ 190's 4 stage purification system can actually filter out of the air you breathe!
We've had the Fellowes AeraMax™ 190 Air Purifier, from Penny Wise Office Products, in our house for about a month and I can definitely sense and see the difference. See? Yes, see! This air purifier not only has an easy remove and replace HEPA filter, where I can see visible contaminants that have been trapped, but the front touch screen display has an easy to read AeraSmart™ 190 Sensor system that detects and conveys the current air quality. Simply take a glance at the sleek front profile of this unit and take note of the Blue, Amber, or Red quality alert marker; the purifier will automatically adjust fan speed to increase or decrease filtration based on it's readings. How's that for a smart appliance?

My father was a bit skeptical that an air purifier could actually be of use in his home, so I was happy to bring it over for a demonstration. The Felowes AeraMax™ 190 Air Purifier has a convenient hidden handle cubby for transport and the generous cord length means the unit can be conveniently tucked away (or strategically placed) for optimal treatment. With a 190' impact radius, the Fellowes AeraMax™ 190 Air Purifier is appropriate for most medium sized rooms such as average living rooms and master bedrooms. While the dust in my father's home was visible (sorry dad!) there were other obvious contaminants present. Even the oxygen providing plans can house allergen spores, and pets with their dander can easily spell big time trouble for sensitive noses and lungs.

I was happy to note the AeraSmart™ Sensor never went from Amber to Red, but it did spend a decent portion of its initial time in the moderate (Amber) zone. Unexpectedly, one of the benefits of having a great air purifier around was some odor filtration. Lingering smoke (and even the particles from cooking odors) are neutralized and absorbed noticeably. We were even able to effectively situate it between the two main couches for higher traffic days with guests and visitors, thanks to the tall profile with side venting.

As someone who was raised to be sensitive to mites, dust, smoke, and pollen, having a high quality intelligent Air Purifier like the AeraMax™ 190 on hand is priceless for my piece-of-mind. Gone are the days when I'd have to hide in my home wondering if I'd still suffer an allergy attack behind closed doors. And this device is pretty darn discreet when it comes to quiet- which is even better when on Smart Mode and left running throughout the day. Order your Fellowes AeraMax™ 190 Air Purifier from Penny Wise Office Products and be sure to keep an eye out for other household and office innovations by this great brand!

What Daughter Says: Feel a little more confident in what you're not breathing in with a home air purifier system for you high traffic rooms.

@FellowesInc Saturn 95 Laminator Project Ideas + Penny Wise Office Giveaway~ 10/8

**** I received a Saturn Laminator compliments of Penny Wise Office Products and Fellowes, in exchange for my honest opinions. No further compensation was received. All photos below are copyright Momma Told Me Blog 2013.
Momma Told Me: If you treasure it, protect it!

Growing up, we were always the house on the street with all the gadgets, and latest technology. We had 3 PCs in the mid-80s, and an office full of the latest appliances and electronics. Looking back, I realize I used to take this for granted. I'd bring in beautifully bound reports with laminated covers and wonder why my reports sparkled more than those of my friends. Didn't everyone have a copy machine at home? Wasn't a laminator as common as a Polaroid? The truth is, my parents probably spent a small fortune to have these 'cutting edge' consumer products; while owning your own office components today is much more affordable. Companies such as Fellowes have been leading office innovation for decades, and strive hard to tailor their products to their consumers with multiple levels of sophistication and cost to fit every need.
Fellowes Saturn Laminator
The Fellowes collection of personal Laminator machines are named after planets, with the Saturn falling mid-range, with three hot/cold laminating depths, while the more professionally suited Neptune can process documents up to 12.5" wide and 7 mil thick. Choosing the right laminator for you can be a little overwhelming, but the company has a complete guide to cover hot/cold laminating specifications, as well as necessary document sizes and thickness. The Fellowes Saturn 95 Laminator sells for just over $100 at Penny Wise Office products, and is the perfect starter laminator for those beginning to dabble in basic lamination crafts (jewelry creation), or simple office organization and memory preservation.

I still recall our family's first laminator. It had a bulky roll of 'film' that I'd have to fuss with to pull apart, and half the time I'd break the lamination is I cut too close to the document seal. Then there were the basic safety concerns of a hot surface, high energy use, and complicate operation (nor was it very quiet). Using the Saturn 95 for the first time was equal to a breath of fresh air- Not only were the illuminated buttons easy to navigate, but the operation of the machine was whisper quiet. My new Fellowes laminator came with a package of lamination pouches which were easy to organize (for maximum space management), and bypassed the traditional fuss of lamination rolls and feeding. Operation was as simple as allowing the unit to heat up, selecting the optimal thickness of the items being laminated, then inserting the lamination pouch, sealed end first, into the front of the unit. The Fellowes Saturn 95 then 'grabs' the pouch and automatically feeds it through to the opposite end.

It had been a few years since I'd last invested in a laminator, and the operation was night and day. I couldn't believe how cool to the touch the front of the machine was, during operation, or how utterly silent the process was. It was so simple our 10 year old (with an adult watching) could do it- and boy did she get a kick out of seeing her favorite drawings 'preserved for all time.' Naturally, having a Fellowes Laminator around will come in handy for various projects, especially school projects, throughout the year; but there are many creative uses for a home laminator too. When I make 'meals in a jar' this holiday season I will be laminating my recipe cards to tie to the lids. Children's parties can come to life with home-made 'Pin the Tail' games, or custom Bingo cards (use candy for markers), templates for which can easily be found free online. You'll also find a great assortment of office supplies and project tools, as well as Laminator sheet refills at Penny Wise Office Products, online and through their catalog.

I also got a head start on holiday entertaining when I made a few Name-Tag samples for the Thanksgiving table, and our lunches got just a little more magical with some re-usable joke and encouragement note cards to slip into Sabrina and Jay's lunches. Laminating items can also easily transition them into an easy clean surface for chore charts, grocery lists, and more. Use Expo or Sharpie markers to write on the laminated surface and wipe off with a gentle alcohol/water spray. It's really that easy! Having a laminator in the home is not the first thing one thinks of when they're shopping for home office necessities, but the whole family is sure to find a much needed use sooner or later (my money's on sooner). What would you do with a home laminator?

What Daughter Says: Preserve memories, and make life a little less messy, with a Fellowes Laminator.

Fellowes Atom 150 Paper Trimmer Review + Giveaway ~ 3/18

Paper Trimmer
Momma Told Me: Nothing in life is free.

On the subject of coupons you likely fall into 1 of 2 categories; the first being the Professional Couponer, one who knows their way around a circular and often makes lists to match coupons to sales. The second, the Casual Couponer, will use a discount if it is readily handy or available, but will not go out of their way to save. If you fall into the latter then you likely feel it is simply too much effort and organization to efficiently coupon, and if you're one of the first, like me, you know this to be true. To be classified as a Couponer you must exhibit an inane passion for organization and planning, and you must also have hands of steel. You see, cutting coupons is, perhaps, the part of the process I like least. Sure, discovering new savings and browsing the weekend circulars is exciting, but halfway through the first insert my hands are already aching. It's the one task in the process I'll happily pass off to another family member; as Momma once did with me; that was, until she convinced Pop to invest in a Rotary Trimmer.
Whether you're a deal hunter, and coupon clipper, like myself, or simply a busy woman with a creative family, the right Rotary (Paper) Trimmer can be worth it's weight in gold. (And they can be quite heavy.) Recently I set out to shop for a mid-range trimmer that would offer convenience in home, when storing, and additional safety around Sabrina. I wanted something that could process up to 10 sheets at a time with precision, yet function simple enough that I could still be efficient in timing. The Fellowes name is no stranger to Momma Told Me, nor is the source, Penny Wise Office Products (why would I go anywhere else for my home office needs?) The Fellowes Atom 150 Rotary Trimmer will cut through upwards of 30 (20lb) sheets of paper at once, and can also handle tougher materials such as card stock, plastic film, and foam board. That's right, my new coupon aid will also help in school science projects and craft endeavors!
Rotary Trimmer
Made by the trusted Fellowes brand, a staple in office components, the Atom 150 weighs just under 13lbs, and includes a built in carrying handle for transport. While this model does not fold or break down for storage, it is durable enough to sit out in a craft room or home office. I like to leave and printed or ad coupon packets on top of ours so my secret helpers will see that there is work to be done! While the blade in this trimmer is not replaceable, the unit is covered under a 2 year machine and 10 year blade warranty that will enable the replacing of the entire unit, should in issue arise. The sides of the unit are made from metal, which give the trimmer the majority of it's weight, but also provide stability. On the bottom of the feet are round foam pads, to prevent scuffing of work-surfaces. As mentioned the blade does not lift up, or expose itself at any time during the process. The user simply slides the material beneath the plastic guide and moves the large yellow handle, trimmer blade, upwards. A second cut can be made on the down-stroke if desired.
Fellowes
The Fellowes Atom 150 from Penny Wise Office arrives nearly assembled. I state nearly because there is an optional, and highly recommended, Back Edge Guide that rests in a natural groove along the measuring wall and fixes via magnetic force. This guide is great for the processing of mass quantities where keeping a precise measurement is essential. This also works in conjunction with the auto-engaging paper guide, the clear plastic bar seen above, that helps to stabilize the material at the point of incision. Naturally Fellowes has included several basic forms of measurement, including some common radial increments to help with the measuring and trimming of photos and other creative materials. You'll find thousands of useful home office and creative aids at Penny Wise Office, the woman ran office products company that delivers to your door!
I'll admit, after my first swipe I was a bit concerned about the ease of movement for the Atom 150 blade. As it turned out the more layers/sheets I cut at a time the easier the blade seemed to move. I also had better success swiping when the blade edge was closest to my dominant hand (Right), which allowed me to provide a more precise pressure in swipe. Halfway through my first batch of coupons I could notice the machine easing up. The blade seemed to move swifter along the track, and I was getting used to feeding my sheets through the front guide. Before I knew it, I was done; it's a good thing the blade on the Atom 150 is encased, because I had really fallen into a groove! We use precision cutting often in our home for school and craft projects, and even home repairs; the Atom 150 has really enhanced precision, and eliminated frustration on so many tasks. I certainly think every household should have a Rotary Trimmer like this!

What Daughter Says: Cutting coupons takes time, but it doesn't have to be painful!
