At this time in my life, I don't have any kids. I do, however, consider pets to be the next closest thing to having children. If anything, they are even more 'child-like' than human kids; as human children eventually learn to communicate their needs through verbal speaking. My four-legged kids have to manage their own form of communication through ankle swats and loud purrs. In fact, that's precisely how I ended up with our first cat- shortly after I'd been married, to test the strength of my husband and I's skills at raising and caring for another living being.
And, while I didn't carry her in my womb for 9 months, the search for Ms. Truffles was almost as long, since I began at the end of 'cat season.' (I'll be honest I had no idea there was such a thing- we seemed to see stray kittens year-round). Finally, when I was about to give up, Truffles found us. At a nearby chicken farm, covered in fleas and huddled, terrified, in the back of an over sized crate. There were roosters making loud noises below her, giant German Shepards sniffing at her face, and she was the last of her litter remaining, weened just a little too soon. I was in for a whole new world of kitty kisses and cat litter.
I grew up with cats, spending the first half of my life in a condo, that was all we had room for. And Momma, with a compromised immune system, promptly taught me all about the joys of being a responsible pet owner. We had one litter box by the front door, and I was in charge of keeping it spotless. (I'm not exaggerating, I'd get updates from Momma when a cat would even walk past the litter box.) Today, Truffles (5) is a picky cat, set in her ways. When she was 1 we taught her to use the human toilet, which worked well for about 6 months until she decided she didn't like the little 'splash' of water that would come back up at her when she did her business. Shopping for litter can be confusing, check out our Google+ Album to see more on why we decided to make the switch to the new Fresh Step formula.
Recently we discovered a new and improved blend of Fresh Step Odor Shield scoopable cat litter, infused with carbon and plant extracts to eliminate odors naturally. Thanks to a new 42lb value bag at Sam's Club, you can stock up on this new formula and score double Paw Points for a limited time. What are Paw Points? This is Fresh Step's new loyalty program for pt parents who buy their product regularly. It's as simple as joining the Paw Points loyalty program online at the Fresh Step website, then entering the codes you find on the specially marked packages. You'll easily rack up points with the 42lb Odor Shield bag at Sam's Club, and be on your way to free cat litter, exclusive discounts, and even adorable cat posters in no time.
Where I once could be caught grabbing anything in sight to cover my nose from the smell of the litter box, newspapers, nick-knacks, even the cat (how do you think cat-bearding got started?), I can now go an entire day without realizing it's there. So, reason stands our local shelter, with an astounding 200+ felines this month, could benefit from the odor eliminating power of new Fresh Step. In fact, we stopped by the Kitty Kottage on our visit to check out some of the shelter's star adoption candidates. With the powerful odor control harnessed within new Fresh Step Odor Shield, there's fewer excuses than ever not to adopt a that feline you've been wanting to expand your family.
In conclusion, if you've considered adopting a cat, but have fears about litter control and odor; pick up a box of new, improved, Fresh Step Odor Shield at your local Sam's Club and put those fears behind you. If you already have a beloved fur baby, stop posting all those adorable cat-bearding shots as you try to mask the smell, and make the switch. But, before you do,be sure to head on over to the Fresh Step and Social Fabric Cat-Bearding Contest and link up your cat-bearding photos, for a shot at a $1000 prize bundle! Entering couldn't be more easy, and you can link up to 15 photos to maximize your chances. I repeat, Cat-Beard, Link Up, Switch Litter, and Win Big!
What Daughter Says: Forget the darker side of cat-parenting, breathe easier with a new, natural litter infused with plant extracts.
I don't have a cat bc I'm allergic but looks like a fun contest!!! When are you going to have 2 legged kids??? ;)
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering about where this cat bearding thing started. I also am a bit obsessive about litter box odor. (OK, a lot obsessive) So, this sounds like a litter to test-drive.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'd like to know how you taught the cat to use a human toilet. That would be even better. LOL.
I've got three boxes in the basement as my Stinky will only use one kind of litter. Stinky used to have another name but it was changed due to the fact that you ALWAYS know when Stinky is in the litter box.
ReplyDeletePoor Stinky....she is a tiny little thing too.
I really enjoyed your post and Truffles is a cutie.
My roommate has a cat and it isn't usually a problem... however I could see this being beneficial :) Good to know even some picky cats will use it :)
ReplyDeleteLove the cat bearding. I didn't know there was a Cat Season either. Is it Christmastime? Like, people getting cats as gifts?
ReplyDeleteCat Season refers to the optimal breeding time for cats, especially strays in the wild. It's when a shelter will get an influx of kittens from the street and turnovers.
ReplyDeleteI have multiple cats, I wonder if this litter would be good for them? I'm going to have to try it out!
ReplyDeleteI had one excellent cat in my life. His name was Cobra Ki and he obeyed just like a dog and no matter where he was I could say, "Cobra Ki do you love me?" and he would come get on my lap and give me a nuzzle on the cheek and a lick kiss. I like cats but never got another one. I love the idea of donating to shelters and will start shopping for sales and do that. I do have people I know with cats and I can never tell they live with them if they use fresh step as it is a great product and my cat friend buddies do recommend it.
ReplyDeleteCat bearding is news to me! LOL, so cute
ReplyDeleteNow if only I could get my cat to help me win $1000!
ReplyDeleteAdorable photos, and I love cats! Cat bearding is so funny. I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect litter for my cat. We always kept it clean immediately.

Still love the Cat Whiskering photo, lol!
ReplyDeleteYour instagram is so hilarious. I love the History of CatBearding. How did you embed it like that? I didn't know there was an embed code for instagram! I never knew what Catbearding was until you explained it to me. Fresh step appears to have saved the day.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post! FUN!
ReplyDeleteNeither of my current kitties would sit still long enough for this!
ReplyDeleteYour love and passion for kitties is so obvious here. I love it!
ReplyDeletecute contest. I miss my cat but my son has horrible allergies to cats
ReplyDeleteYour kitty pics are SO cute. I am allergic to cats so I am much more a dog person. (Although that never stops me from playing with kitties at pet adoptions! I just have super red, runny eyes with a horrible wheeze after.) So I only have a dog, no cats, but thanks for the info...
ReplyDeleteThat's super cute! I see if I can do it with my DOG instead..
ReplyDeleteWe've lost all three of our kitties in the past year and a half. But, considering the oldest lived to be 17, I guess I should be thankful. Enjoy her every single day!!
ReplyDeleteLOL that is so cute! I have a gray baby I may just have to cat beard myself.
ReplyDeleteAw! How cute!
ReplyDeleteCats are so funny, cat bearding....even funnier.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting. I cannot have since my husband despises them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super sweet kitty love tale on how you got your Truffles! My mom had a similar experience with my first dog Max; he was the runt of the littler, came over, gnawed on her shoelaces and it was love at first sight ^.^
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how when an animal is meant for you and vice versa, both parties find their way to each other!
Your cat breading picture is the best I've seen yet! I really need to do this with my three kitties.
ReplyDeleteim not a cat person, in fact i'm allergic to them, but very cute!
ReplyDeleteNo cats at the moment, but my daughter is moving back with her cat named Boston. I will love taking a cat bearding photo of her and telling her about this new litter. Thanks for the very amusing post!
ReplyDeleteAmazing post! You do good work! I like the story about giving back to the shelter.

ReplyDeleteI currently don't have cats but my child really wants one. Love the cat bearding!
ReplyDeleteI have two cats and recently the boy got urinary blockage. We now have four litter boxes. Also, I never knew cat bearding was a thing until just now. I am freaking out.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 cats, and this is actually the only litter that we use.
ReplyDelete"Cat-bearding" is a riot! I foster kittens for the local no-kill cat rescue in town (Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic), and have always called those moments when a kitten lays on my chest/on my chin "kitten-beards", as in, "Oh what a lovely kitten-beard I have right now!"
ReplyDeleteour cat is so adorable. I love cats. My current cat is actually defective or something though. It is scared of everything including my kids. It hides and sleeps all day and meows at night.
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS photos!!!! LOVE THIS! Thanks for your participation in this campaign! #client
