I can't lie, sweets are the way to this woman's heart.

Over the past year I cut my sugar intake drastically to help balance out an unsafe rise in blood sugar. I naturally started shedding the pounds but, more importantly, I learned to savor the sweet things in life all the more. When a cake is brought into the (bowling) alley for a birthday I no longer take the largest piece and go back for seconds. My 'midnight' candy bar stash is gone, and a very precise decision is made every time I decide to put unnecessary sugar in my body- Is it worth it? You see, this is not an argument against sweets, but a celebration of the magical things that can be done with them in an artisan's hands. Sugar should be an indulgence, as it is not necessary to thrive physically, but oh so satisfying emotionally. Stuffing a stocking with 'fun size' chocolates molded in seasonal shapes may seem fun, but just one teal box from Yummes handcrafted confections and your perception of dessert will never be the same again.

Born in a small Ohio professional kitchen in the mid-90's, Yummes is a bakery dedicated to making each bite an experience. With almost a decade of experience, the two baking entrepreneurs at last caved into a national demand, and opened their sweets to consumers online recently. To properly convey what makes Yummes so extraordinarily unique is quite the task, as taste-o-vision has yet to be invented. However, just one look at the brand's trademark Roundies, and any sweet tooth will long for some satisfaction. Pictured above, the Peanut Butter Me Up Roundie is a 3" dessert I had to split with Jay because it was simply so rich. What is a Roundie? These heavenly treats are round punch outs of blondies (chocolate free brownies), layered with a thick helping of fresh buttercream and enrobed in the finest chocolates with drizzle and candy chunk accents to make the staunchest sweet critic swoon. I'll admit, while these are suggested to sit at room temperature for a few hours prior to serving, I enjoyed these most slightly chilled, where the cream could melt along my palette with each bite.

Yummes is also known for their assortment of fresh baked gourmet cookies and seasonal/themed sugar cookie boxes. Mimicking a non-frozen ice cream sandwich, the confectioners at Yummes sandwiched a thick helping of piped frosting between two of these cookies, and dipped a half in chocolate for good measure. With flavor creations such as Chocolate Chip Champ, Do The Macadamia, and Snickerdoodle Dandy, these are much more than grandma's cookies! I especially love that the Yummes ladies cater to all palettes with the refined elegance of Macadamias alongside childhood favorite; Snickerdoodles. The last time I had a good Snickerdoodle I was in grade school, and Yummed doesn't dissapoint. Each Roundie or Cookie Sandwich is a true delicacy in itself. Don't believe me? How about trying the Good Karma Apple Roundie, filled with homemade apple pie filling and caramel sauce enrobed in cream cheese frosting.

Not only have I never seen such a confection local to me, but the entire enrobed experience is just the right indulgence, with minimal mess.
