Momma Told Me: You're quite the character!
I suppose now's as good a time as any to confess, in high school, I was not the 'cool' kid. The fact I was several years younger than my peers and my father kept his shotgun polish in the hallway outside my bedroom didn't help either. So, when I wasn't studying, or taking make up college courses for the high school years I'd skipped, I was on the computer engrossed in my own make believe world. I held no authority in my own life, so I settled for painstakingly painting every feature of another's, in The Sims Series of computer and video based games.
When I was five or six I recall watching over my father's shoulder as he tinkered in the original Sim City (1989) on a boxy computer he kept hidden in a giant scroll top desk. Then, again in 1994, when I was about old enough to pick and choose my own computer programs, I was allowed my first copy of SimCity2000; a sandbox style game much more different than the Electronic Arts people simulator The Sims, later released in 2000. But this franchise was precisely the reason a 16 year-old me packed up and headed to art school to major in Game Art And Design in 2003.
So here I am, barreling towards my thirties, with no practical time to play the video games of my youth, but scheduling it regardless in enthusiastic anticipation of the September 2, 2014 launch of #TheSims4. The programming and development progress of commercial computer animation within computer and video games never ceases to amaze me, and I find myself as eager as if I were a teenager again to experience the ever growing list of hands on mechanics this story simulation game has to offer. Don't worry, I'll spare you my Simlish breakdown and highlight a few of my favorite things in English.

How fun! Your character really looks like you. Great review, loved all the pictures!
ReplyDeleteFun stuff. I really didn't even know that The Sims were still around, but I think I will check it out :)
ReplyDeleteFun, I would play around with this for hours! I seen on the news yesterday that female women are now the biggest gamers, maybe it's because we can virtually shop for all these great clothes!! lol
ReplyDeleteI haven't played a Sims game in years! I will have to check this one out!
ReplyDeletei haven't played a SIMS before. my nephew does, and loves them. as do a few of my nieces. i noticed you chewing the sour patch kids gum- i feel so old. i tried a piece and felt like my face was puckering OFF! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love SIMS! I used to play all. the. time. I'll have to check the newest game out!
ReplyDeleteI love the Sims series. It's a real blast. You just have to be careful to remember your real life! =D
ReplyDeleteMy niece is all about the Sims. She has the Sims 3 plus every expansion known to man.
ReplyDeleteI've never encountered a game I love more than the Sims. You can do so much in it. Plus, I'm not really into killing or building countries.
ReplyDeleteMy niece loves the Sims. She plays it all the time. I don't know why but her favorite thing to do is never take a bath and walk around with flies buzzing around here. She's such a weirdo. ;)
ReplyDeleteI remember watching my dad play the original Sims game, too. How funny. It has come a LONG way since the '80s!
ReplyDeleteOh it has been ages since I played a SIMS game. They were so much fun when I was younger. I love your character. Love the personalization options.
ReplyDeleteI remember building and destroying cities in the same SimCity game you spoke about, but never got into The Sims. This one sounds like a ton of fun though... I like the different characters you can create with the click of a button. Very cool! Also, it's SUPER cool how close to you you got your character!
ReplyDeleteLOL, that's SO cute that you dressed up just like your character. My kids used to play the original Sims game. I tried it once but it was a little boring. I'm sure it's improved over the years.
ReplyDeleteI've never played Sims but loved computer games when I was a kid! Looking back, are you glad that you bypassed the years of school or do you wish you'd stayed in with your same-age peers?
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool, looks just like you!
ReplyDeleteSims is one of the only computer games that I ever really got into. It has come a really long way since the first version I wish I knew someone in the right age range to go over and check it out. If I got it for myself I think I would play all day and not get my work done.
ReplyDeleteI'm a total Sims junkie! I get hooked for hours on end when I play.
ReplyDeleteMy son loves Sims so he will really love that he can create characters that look like him!
ReplyDeleteMy kids always loved playing the Sims. My son is really excited for Sims 4.
ReplyDeleteI have never played SIMS but I have heard of it. My sister in law loves it so I'm sure she is all over this new incarnation. I have just never played any computer games except for Farmville for a very short period of time.
ReplyDeleteI've never played a SIMS game before but it looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteI remember playing sim city and the sims in high school!! That sim looks very similar to you!
ReplyDeleteMy hubs love SimCity but we've never tried the Sims. Wow, I didn't realize everything that went into the game and how advanced the technology used in it is.
ReplyDeleteI haven't played a SIM Game in a long time. This one looks sweet!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so fun. Great job on creating your character!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I love the Sims....I spent $300 for the first set....now you tell me 4 is out and if I did play, I'd get lost in it again and have no time for sweeps.
ReplyDeleteOh this looks awesome! My husband and his sister and huge Sims people! Between the two of them they have all the expansion packs! I was the type that would create a family, pause the game and "rosebud" cheat my way to millions and build a huge & lavish house and furnish it then go to the next plot. I never actually played the game LOL
ReplyDeleteI have played around with Sims a bit but really its my husband (who is a game developer and actualy worked at EA for a few years a while back) who's played the most. Your character is adorable just like you Jenna! :) Video games are such a huge part of our family's life.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun! I can't believe how much you got that character to resemble you. lol Too bad they don't make it for iOS. :-(
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fun app! I would love to play on this and create a fun me!
ReplyDeleteShe really does look like you!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger, I loved playing the Sims. My husband and I would have so much fun! Love that she looks like you too!
ReplyDeleteI was pretty impressed with this, great job and was shocked how much she looked like you. Pretty awesome and my kids would love this
ReplyDeleteYour Sim looks just like you!! I'm so looking forward to playing this game, but I'm also seeing long nights of playing and not getting any sleep!! I could get lost in The Sims for hours! #client
ReplyDeleteOh man! I was obsessed with this game from the original Sim City all the way to Sims 2 before I realized how much time I used up every day! It's so much fun and SO addictive!
ReplyDeleteI have played Sims since 2000. I don't have Sims 4 yet, but I hope my nephew keeps to his word and buys a copy for me. I bought him many expansions over the years, so it's nice to have him return the favor. My daughter was playing Sims 2 when she was 2 1/2 in limited spurts because of course a 2 1/2 is a busy little person with much to do. It was crazy how fast she learned to play Sims 3 with the different controls. We cannot wait to try out Sims 4. We've played with the CAS demo which I absolutely love.
ReplyDeleteI have not played the Sims, but the #TheSims4 looks like a lot of fun! The graphics are wonderful. My son and daughter would really enjoy this.

I personally do not play, but my son loves it so much! He is so excited for this one to come out! I love how detailed it is and so glad it still will work on Windows 7!
ReplyDeleteI use to play SIMS in forever! Might have to start playing it again!
