Momma Told Me: When life get's hairy, sweep it up- there's no way the vacuum is going to handle that mess.
My name is Jenna and I have a shedding problem.
I maintain a full head of thick hair, and yet, I shed incessantly. We're not talking about the usual hair on the brush, a few strands piggy backing on clean laundry, better sweep the bathroom floor. I'm a full on DEFCON 1, don't hug me or your wife will think you've been cheating, sneeze and the dogs is a new shade of black, considering taking up crafting tiny animals from my hairballs, shedder. And, if something isn't done around here soon I'm going to have to start paying rent for my fallen comrades to occupy our living space, or, at the very least find a vacuum that can cut it (the hair, that is.)
Cleaning up after a shedder is no joke. With proper commitment, it's almost a part time job. And, when you add a dog and a cat into the mix your days of sweeping up dust bunnies and cutting hair mats from the vacuum brush roller are ever so consuming. In fact, we had specifically chosen a hypoallergenic dog because, well, animals with hair aren't supposed to shed. As it turns out, our Maltese Yorkie doesn't- but the fluff balls from her daily brushings tend to roll down the hall like ghost town at high noon. And the cat, who's favorite place to lounge is on the printer tray (which is just where I want loose cat hair) is the only living creature I've ever met that sheds more than me- and that's saying something, folks.
Some have speculated that my personal battle with shedding is one that has resulted from excessive coloring. Let me assure you, my hair was falling out with the wind long before I began adding funky pops of pink and purple. And, even my stylist claims my scalp and hair seem quite well taken care of, and nourished. All this is lovely, but I've grown tired of replacing my vacuum on a yearly basis, and the chore of cutting out, what looks like, a mangled Furby from the brush roller's undercarriage weighs on my patience. I'll admit, I don't always get it 'all,' and when I've decided my vacuum is done fighting the good fight I retire my scissors and a couple hundred dollars to invest in a new one.
My rivers of hair not only flow onto the carpeted floors, but the porcelain ones as well. As my very long hair jumps to it's freedom under the relaxing waterfall of the shower head's warm stream our tub's drain grows closer and closer to catastrophe. In addition to pouring half a jar of bleach down the bathroom drains each week we practice several methods of safe hair removal. While many will suggest using an old wire coat hanger, I've found you can get 6-10 feet of floral crafting wire for less than a dollar at the local value store or Walmart garden/craft departments. Not only is this wire easy to cut, for a fresh strand each use, but bends beautifully to any hook size for various drain openings and shapes.
Of course I make an attempt to plea bargain with my scalp as well- promising daily massages of almond and lavender essential oils in exchange for just a little less hair fall this week. Not only is almond oil high in several nutrients that nourish and fortify hair follicles, as their core, but the high vitamin E content is said to be equally valuable in replenishing dry skin at the scalp, which will help close brittle follicles and lessen breakage. Personally, I don't know if it does or doesn't work, but my hair always seems a bit bouncier the following day, and I never turn down a scalp massage- even if I'm the one giving it!
Another way to make your life a little less hairy is to quite literally reduce the 'hairy' factors in your life. Turn down the stress and studies have proven your overall health will lead to a stronger core, and subsequent, less stress induced hair loss. Did you know that stress can cause 3 different types of hair loss from one's immune system rejecting hair at the follicle base to ordering the cessation of hair growth in chunks and patterns, to one literally pulling their hair out in frustration. Reducing the stress in your life is the perfect way to take care of yourself, regardless of the condition of your mane. Consider meditation through Yoga or Pilates, or simply set aside a portion of time each day to unwind and reflect on goals, rather than deadlines.
Whether you're a habitual shedder, like me, or sharing your living space with four-legged friends and family, it's a fact; life gets hairy. So, let me introduce you to my latest #lifehacks must have, the vacuum that will change your life, and your floors, forever; the Eureka Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® from Walmart. This revolutionary appliance has mastered the art of #CleaningUntangled thanks to several key features intended to help you capture maximum dust, grime, and most importantly hair, with absolutely no tangles. And I'm not talking about the 27 foot automatic power cord rewind (though that is an amazing feature,) I'm referencing the revolutionary Self Cleaning Brushroll.
The Eureka Brushroll Clean™ is equipped with SuctionSeal® technology that creates a tight seal barrier between the suction vortex and floors for efficient cleaning that eliminates blow back on tile and light pile carpeted floors. Meanwhile, the easy on/off Brushroll is there to help knock free any dirt and debris that may be hiding within the piles of carpeting, or any hair that may be waiting just on the surface. That's right, this vacuum is intended to suck up hair from humans and pets alike, and holds the unique promise of entirely touch free hair removal thanks to the Self-Cleaning Brushroll button.
Traditionally, no self respecting vacuum owner would go several uses with a tangled brush without whipping out a pair of scissors and taking to their brushroll's undercarriage. Eureka Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® eliminates that need- destroy trapped and wound up hair with every use in just seconds thanks to a state of the art technology that enables the removal of wound hair with a single foot pedal. Triggering the Eureka Brushroll Clean™ function will effectively cut through gathered hair and free it for suction into the vacuum's AirSpeed® base. The efficient design of the AirSpeed® base, combined with a powerful suction core (considered stronger than the Dyson DC41) help deliver freed hair clogs and clumps into the easy empty dust cup.
You're probably saying, "Sure, Jenna, that all sounds fine and dandy, but does it work?" I've only had my Eureka Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® for a little while but find I am consistently more and more impressed with the finer details of it's design. The Eureka Brushroll Clean™ was clearly designed with homeowners like me in mind. Life gets messy often in our home, and I most often found myself sweeping several times a day to ward off the hair tangles that I knew would ensure should I plug in the background. With 5 unique height settings and an easy to engage Brushroll, I can seamlessly move from carpet to tile, and back without the fuss of brooms or levers. I love that I can easy clean flat flooring surfaces efficiently thanks to the SuctionSeal® barrier flap, and have used it several times to clean up messes with fine dust or particles that would have otherwise spread.
I'm a hairy individual, and shedding is a part of my life. Until recently, it was a part of me I didn't feel comfortable discussing with my vacuum. I'm happy to report Eureka the Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® has managed to tackle the various shedding complications of our family. Gone are the days of sitting on the floor with a vacuum's undercarriage in my face swearing in cartoon phrases as I hack away at a brushroll with a box cutter and scissors. I've gotta say, I'm loving having a relationship with a vacuum that's much less high maintenance. And my floors- well, they're looking a lot less 1970s shag and a lot more 2000's fab.
Eureka and Walmart want to help you live your life a little less hairy as well, so they're hosting a very special #CleaningUntangles sweepstakes. Enter below for your chance at one of 8 Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® vacuums or $3000 in Walmart gift cards! Now, tell me, who's the biggest contributor to brushroll combat in your household?
What Daughter Says: Finally, a vacuum with life's hairy side in mind. Put down you broom and get the Eureka Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® vacuum.
I think this is the best thing since sliced bread. I have extremely long hair and I have to pull the bar out of my vacuum all the time to clean the hair off and it is a real pain.
This will definitely be our next vacuum! I have long, fine hair that falls out constantly as well as two little girls with the same and a very furry cat that sheds like nobody's business. I would love to retire my vacuum scissors (and stop listening to my husband complain about all the hair!)
One tip to help with the shedding of pets is to wipe upholstery with a damp cloth- it comes right up. OR if you want to go moisture free, a latex glove across most upholstered surfaces will work!
My daughter has really long hair and we have two cats, so things can totally get hairy around here. This looks like a vacuum that can handle all that hair.
I think I live with a family of shedders, myself included. Nice floral wire trick. The roller on our vacuum is tangled with my daughter's 3 ft long hair. It is a total mess. I would love to try this vacuum out.
I am literally in love with this vacuum and the self cleaning brushroll! And my kids love it too! It is so much easier for them to use vs our older vacuum! And definitely cleans up the pet hair a lot better too!
This looks like the perfect vacuum for my family. There are three of is with long hair, two long hair dogs and it gets everywhere. I am always cleaning out the vacuum brush.
Wow! That is pretty impressive. I admit to having to get the scissors out more than I like. I need something like this just to make vacuuming less of a hassle!
You crack me up! ...but I do feel your pain. We currently have 3 cats (okay they are mine... cue the crazy cat lady theme music) and my daughter and I both shed like crazy. It is definitely hard to keep up with. #client
I am loving the low maintenance vacuum too! Oh my gosh the time I spent sitting hacking away at our brushroll. Such a pain in the ass. This one is awesome. And I Love your idea of the floral wire, I think I need to do that right now in our shower!
I have thick long hair, and it loves to escape my head. I actually pull my loose hairs out (gently!) while I am conditioning and stick the, to the side of the shower, and then throw them away when I get out. It sounds kind of gross, I know, but so is pulling hair out of the drain, right? Seriously...it makes a HUGE difference! I rarely have to deal with shower drain problems.
Okay your post could be about me. Mom always yelled at me that my hair was everywhere! Can't help it! Mix that with the 2 dogs and the cat. I always have to cut hair from my vacuum -.- I've had a simple Eureka upright bagless vacuum for more than 10 years. I love it other than having to cut the hair. So this is definitely going to be my next vacuum.
I LOVE this! I also have long hair that falls out. We have gone through countless vacuums just because of the amount of my hair that gets caught in it. I just LOVE this idea! With the cleaning tools and suction seal, this vacuum rocks!
Sounds like an amazing vacuum and we could really use one as ours just died the other day! I love the self cleaning brush as it would save so much time and effort!
Jenna, you are sooooo not alone in the long thick hair that sheds like crazy department! I am right there with you! It is so crazy. I have found my hair in some interesting places. Including my 5 month old little dudes diaper! Maybe he grabbed a strand while I was changing him??!! Anyhoo....we also have a cat...who also sheds. Add a messy 8 and 3 year old to the mix and you can bet we are vacuuming on a daily (sometimes multiple times!). So yeah...we need a good vacuum that can gobble up all that hair without getting nasty two days after taking it out of the box. I really like that this vacuum has that little foot pedal brushroll clean feature. And of course, the fact that it can be taken from my carpets to my kitchen flooring with ease is a huge plus.
With my cat's fur and the parakeets downy feathers, and hairy hubby lol. cleanup has always been a challenge so this new technology definitely sounds exciting. I can totally relate to having the issue of the clogged brushroll and this sounds like it has that problem taken care of with the new vacuum.
My vacuum literally just died on Saturday, so I am in the market. This one sounds awesome.
