Momma Told Me: Dress for you!
When I was young, fresh out of high school and in college, I loved all
things girlie. I wouldn't let a warm Southern California day go by
without sporting a Summer Dress or a flowy skirt and heels. But, as
women know all too well, time is not always so kind to our curves, and
sizes and shapes tend to change. My weight has fluctuated quite a bit
over the past ten years, and only recently did I drop over 60lbs after a
serious health scare. I never was a 'big' girl, but I've never been a
'small' girl either. I have curves, from head to toe, and this can be a
difficult fashion hurdle for a 5'11" woman entering her 30s. I still
want to be fun and flirty, but I also want to be modest and feminine.
And that is how I fell in love with Karina dresses, a brand that truly
makes a dress for every body.
With 12 core designs, and numerous prints within each design, the Karina
collection is always evolving through the season and to meet their
customer's demands. Several of the styles, such as the Gala and Lauren
even offer different cuts and lengths to suit the wearer's tastes.A lot of the dresses feature fabrics in beautiful bold prints that certainly make a statement, though the designs, themselves, are forgiving and simple. After having tried the Magenta Safari Gala Wrap Dress and the
Penelope in Purple Plaid, I wanted to find a Karina that was a little closer to my comfort zone; something almost vintage in style. And that's how I fell in love with the Navy With White Polka Dot print
Nora dress last month. This fun and flirty capped sleeve dress swings just at my knees and is ever so comfortable.
I wore my Nora to my Great Aunt's 90th birthday celebration to many compliments- the vivid print with rich navy color fit my retro styling so perfectly I used it in my new blog theme (live now.) As a Frockstar™ Nation Event member I've been pampered with a wardrobe of flattering and oh-so-comfortable dresses. When Sabrina saw my
Nora dress she begged for one of her own. Karina prides themselves on having the perfect dress for 'every body;' that means every woman at any stage in her life. I was certain Sabrina would love a Karina dress of her own, and agreed to forgo my own selection this month so she could make one of her own. The caveat that she would have to 'model' the dress for my site was no deterrent, this young lady is quite the ham!
Sabrina loves to be girly, and is always looking for an excuse to 'dress up' in a dress. However, we struggle to find modest women's dresses that fit her frame (she is tall and grown for her age,) while still remaining modest enough not to give her step-dad a heart attack when she wears them. Sabrina also has a richer complexion that sometimes proves a challenge when finding complimentary tones and prints; which is far from a problem when concerning Karina. In fact, we had three 'favorites' within no time, and Sabrina eventually fell on the Nora dress for it's unique pockets she calls "practical and playful." It's hard to argue the confidence that came over Sabrina in her new Nora dress, as she spent the entire afternoon twirling and grinning from ear to ear. Not only was the dress comfortable, it made her feel confident, and that is the most important 'styling' any dress can have!
Not only are these dresses flattering and extremely comfortable to wear, they come in a wide range of sleeve lengths and cuts to fit everyone's shape and style. The Karina collection is growing every day, and some of my favorite
prints and styles are making their way out of the collection, *cough,
Purple Plaid Penelope* so be sure to stop by today! The remainder of the Spring 2014 line is almost done being revealed, and you'll want to be the first to see the gorgeous prints lined up! Sign up for the
