A SoCal Holiday With 360 Sound From The Carbon Audio Pocket Speaker #shop

Momma Told Me: Find your inspiration and you will inspire others.

Despite having completed the majority of my holiday shopping in October, I often find this time of year especially hard in regards to motivation. Don't mistake that sentiment for a lack of looming deadlines and festive chores, of which there seem to be a limitless amount, but the balance of my enthusiasm for the sheer number of hurdles yet to be jumped. When you're a child the holidays are merely a magical time where a constant parade of perfected sweets and beautifully wrapped gifts fall into your hands. As an adult, on the other side of that magic, it's running to and from stores filling shopping lists, planning seating arrangements for holiday dinners, contemplating secret 'Santa' hiding places, and making room for the inevitable trough of gifts to be opened throughout. And, as the radio stations turn to 24/7 holiday tunes, and the Mall speakers pipe in only the most festive of music, I find myself yearning for the anchoring escape of my own identity. I am not an elf, I am a human; and when I'm stuffing myself in the attic crawl space to hide this year's Monster High playset, I need something extra small and extra loud to get me through, a little #PocketBoom, if you will.

Of course, one of the great things about finally being an 'adult' through the holidays, is that you can take charge and decide to bless yourself with a gift you really want. And you don't even have to wait until December 25th to open it! When November rolled around I knew what I wanted; a ConAir Curl Secret, which I promptly bought for myself as Jay's gift to me, and a Bluetooth pocket speaker with seamless 360 sound. I've owned several portable speakers throughout the years, it's not secret that technology is constantly getting more powerful and more affordable for the modern consumer. Unfortunately, my post investments have had very short battery life, and a weak range of projection and clarity for the exchange in compact size.

So this year I headed to my local Apple store, conveniently located in the mall I was already planning to visit, and browsed the selection of bluetooth speakers sold to compliment their products best. What I discovered was the Carbon Audio Pocket Speaker, exclusively sold at Apple stores nationwide. One of the smallest footprints on the shelf, and reasonably priced under $100, the Pocket Speaker boasted a 360 sound output with up to 8 hours of continuous sound through a micro to USB charging cable. Make no mistake though, while this charges via a cable it is entirely cord free in operation; just a little bigger than the current iPhone model, the Pocket Speaker can even pair with a second unit to project a surround sound experience through left and right audio distribution! But, for me, one of the best selling point (prior to experiencing it) was that this pocket sized speaker came in a rainbow of vibrant colors to suit my personality.

The Pocket Speaker by Carbon Audio offers a colorful silicone wrap around that actually acts as a sound insulator and grip for particularly tricky surfaces. Because it emits sound via Bluetooth, from both the front and back, it offers amazing clarity when unobstructed and standing up. We first brought my new toy to the local pier for one of our trademark Winter walks. Our family likes to escape the madness of plans and preparation with regular sunset viewings here. Southern Californian's tend to disappear in the cold, and we usually have the scenery to ourselves. Out in the open air was the perfect demonstration of the Pocket Speaker's projection power. Just over half the volume capability, I could hear the music playing by Sabrina and Jay from the Taco Shack at the base of the pier, 1600 feet away!

I later brought the Pocket Speaker over to my father's house to help dress the tree. I'd been traveling around with the Carbon Audio speaker in my hoodie pockets most of the week, and completely forgotten to disclose it was there. #PocketBoom was certainly appropriate as I garnered curious stares, shortly before a holiday dance floor broke out around me. The holidays may be where the heart is, but the party was where ever my Pocket Speaker went. I cannot speak enough praise towards the clarity of this humble, hot pink, pocket speaker; which I have yet to be able to max out it's volume, for sheer awe of it's impact. I can pair a myriad of my Bluetooth electronics within seconds, as use is intuitive and a breeze, and stream from phones, radios, tablets and more. Best of all, I've found the range of Bluetooth device to speaker is fairly impressive. At one time I left the living room, with my phone, and wandered out to the front yard and the Pocket Speaker continued to play!

Of course we shouldn't overlook the impact of the Pocket Speaker on the younger family members either, Sabrina (11) is constantly singing (seriously, it's a problem). I quickly learned the simplest way to motivate Sabrina to be productive was to provide her with music to pass the time of the task. In the past this has meant streaming from the tin-like speakers of her laptop, which have a short range and poor clarity. Now I can sit the Pocket Speaker on any shelf and she can project her favorite playlists via Bluetooth. This worked like a charm when it came time to clean out the garage (and my coupon stockpile) for holiday donations. Not only did we build 3 giant boxes of clothing and toy donations, but countless meals in shelf stable foods. And the entire family danced along to the Pocket Speaker the entire way! I  now know a slew of family members who would love to find this techie gift under their tree, from young to old, but the true lesson here is that giving to oneself can truly help open the door to give to others!

  2. This might be just the thing for hubby's "motorcycle palace" AKA workshop. He's been taking his laptop out there to play pandora but it's getting to be a pain for him.

I'll have to go check it out.
    Thanks!

  5. I've been looking for an easy to carry set of speakers for my iPhone. It's great to have all my music and the Spotify app on my phone but what good does it do me in some remote none-connected spot? I need to look into this, maybe add it to my wishlist. - Katy

  9. Oh I am loving this speaker! I love how you can literally take it anywhere! I hate the speakers that have to be plugged in. Life is too mobile for one of those.
