The Holiday Season Is #IDSafetySeason With The @FellowesInc Powershred P-12c

Momma Told Me: Safety isn't just for ladders and scissors!

When I was just a little girl I had big dreams of being my father's personal assistant. I'd follow him around with tools pretending to fix the equipment, and drive from restaurant to restaurant collecting all of the happy meal toys. (He repairs commercial grills and soft serve machines.) I never minded helping him with his work chores; hosing off the company vehicle every week, carefully checking in parts inventory from a packing list, and shredding important documents. Okay, I especially loved the shredding- not simply because I got to watch heaps of paper disintegrate into confetti like shreds, but because I also felt like I was performing a top secret task. Lord knows what important internal information that humble little soft serve company could have that might be leaked and somehow turned against them! That's right, I shredded because it was the safe thing to do, and lessons of personal information, identity, safety were a constant theme throughout my childhood.

My father taught me all about how to handle mail, personal information, old identification cards, discarded checks and more. The household shredder was not just another appliance in our home, but an added security net for our family's preservation. According to Javelin Strategy and Research, there was one incident of ID fraud every 3 seconds in 2012. No period contributes itself to this vicious crime more than the holiday season, in which ordinary consumers are often amidst the holiday pressure and buzz, and can easily be convinced to hand over precious personal information. And, simply because we live in a digitally dominated time, doesn't make us any less susceptible to old-fashioned ID fraud techniques. In fact, you may have more personal information than ever sitting right in your family garbage bin on the curb. Consider the extra advertising catalogs, online purchase invoices, packing slips, and donation receipts you may otherwise toss without a second thought.

This year it's important to protect your family from ID fraud and identity theft with smart transactions and proper disposal of sensitive information. To help us get through the 2013 holidays and into 2014, our family has trusted in a state of the art personal shredder from Fellowes. The Fellowes Powershred p-12c has several flashy features parents are sure to love, but also many thoughtful notes any ID conscious consumer can appreciate. With an easy plug-and-run operation, the P-12c can process up to 12 standard sheets at a time, including thicker materials such as charge cards and staples. This shredder will run continuously for up to 5 minutes of document shredding and even has a built in 'overheat' indicator for optimal performance. For convenience of use the P-12c features a pull-out disposal bin, and top handle for easy transport. Our past shredders have required us to bring the trash bin to the shredder, or handle a top heavy machine in transit to the trash. The added convenience of the fully removable bin is a big plus.

On the front of the removable bin is a clear handle window that enables the operator to view the waste contents and level at all time. This makes it easier to monitor the shredder's performance and ensure the contents do not back up into the processing mechanism. While the Powershred P-12c does have a cross-cut processing, the paper is not confetti fine, but still transformed into 2-3 inch shreds that are twice cut during the shredding process, making reassembly near impossible. With a $99.97 price point, at Walmarts nationwide, and online, this Fellowes shredder is a great deal for any finance savvy mother, new college student, or simply smart minded individual. The sleek profile and sexy, yes it's a sexy shredder, design is highly appealing to those with modern furniture and decor.

There are a few other brag worthy features of the Powershred P-12, such as an intelligent SafeSense technology, which automatically disables the shredder in the case of small hands nearing the processing entrance. This is a great peace of mind with children in the home, or even careless people like me who tend to get caught up in the task of document processing! Don't let an ID stealing Grinch ruin your holidays, invest in personal information safety and shred important documents (and even those that don't seem so important!) There are many great uses for shreddings, such as craft projects, pet bedding for small animals and even packaging material to ship all those gifts! Remember that the holiday season is also #IDSafetySeason too!

What Daughter Says: Be safe all year round with SmartSense technology and a Fellowes Powershred P-12 shredder.
